I love chai latte, but all of the store bought concentrates are either packed full of sugar or artificial sweeteners that leave me with a pounding migraine. So instead, I make it myself. It doesn’t take long and it’s free of all the ingredients I don’t want. Give it a try and let me know what you think!
Chai Concentrate (Vegan, Sugar Free)

8 cups water
8 organic black tea bags
2 cinnamon sticks
1 – 3-inch section of fresh ginger, cut into pieces
10 whole cloves
8 cardamom pods
1/2 inch slice nutmeg
2 whole star anise pods
½ teaspoon of whole black peppercorns
1-2 tbsp orange peels
1 tablespoon of vanilla extract (added at the very end)
Directions
- Add all ingredients to a large saucepan. For easier straining, put herbs in a large tea ball.
- Heat water to boiling, then reduce to simmering for 15-20 minutes.
- Pull from heat and add vanilla extract.
- Let cool, then strain into jars.
- Serve with ice and your choice of plant milk. Sweeten if needed.
